Sample Question from the Prosthetic Intermediate level Clinical Simulation Exam:

A 70 y.o. Female Trans-Femoral prosthetic wearer spontaneously fractures her Femur while walking on a level surface. The prosthetic socket design is a Quadrilateral brimmed full suction socket with a Silesian belt auxiliary suspension. Possible causes could be;
A. Lateral wall improper design B. Wide brim in AP or ML C. Distal end of socket too small D. Osteoporosis E. A, B and D are correct F. A, B and C are correct
Correct Answer: E The Quadrilateral brim design relies on the support from the Ischium and the Femur is essentially non-weighted (floating) within the socket. Bone is strengthened from weight bearing and it is not uncommon for the long time wearers Femur to become Osteoporotic.

Sample Question from the Upper Extremity Case Study Scenarios:

A 57 year old Male is presented to your clinic: Physical exam reveals a healthy male with Bilateral limb loss with short left Trans-Radial residual limb, Right shoulder disarticulation limb loss; secondary to electrocution. SD Prosthesis: Externally powered Shoulder Disarticulation prosthesis with Total contact Acrylic Carbon X frame construction, Flexible soft inner lining (due to extensive burn scarring). Single myo site with 2 position pull switch to activate elbow or terminal device. Internal battery.

Suspension: Sub axillary strap with Velcro closure to front and axillary pad.
Componentry: Flexion / Abduction shoulder joint, Powered Elbow, Quick change wrist. Variable prehension powered hand with production stain resistant glove.

Lt. BE Prosthesis: Externally powered Trans-Radial prosthesis with Total contact Acrylic construction, Flexible soft inner lining (due to extensive burn scarring). Dual myo site with Snap on electrodes.

Suspension: Extended Humeral Supraondylar trim lines with roll on sleeve pin suspension.

Componentry: Variable prehension hand, Greifer style TD, quick change wrist and wrist flexion componentry. Production stain resistant glove. External Lithium Ion battery.
